Privacy policy

Maxie is an app for parents and carers to record a baby's feeds, nappies and growth, and to share those records with the other people looking after that baby. This policy explains what we collect, why, where it lives and how to get rid of it.

Who we are

Maxie is made and operated in Australia by Kaizen Ikigai Pty Ltd, ABN 26 680 252 484 (placeholder, to be confirmed before launch). Kaizen Ikigai Pty Ltd is the entity responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

Contact: hello@getmaxie.app (a postal address will be added before launch). We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Who this app is for

Maxie is parent-facing and not directed at children. It is designed for, and only made available to, adults recording information about a baby in their care. We do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to create an account, and we do not market the app to children.

What we collect

• Your account: email address and a password (stored only as a hash, so we never see it).
• What you log: feeds (bottle amounts, breastfeed times and sides), nappies, growth measurements, notes you type, and the times you attach to them.
• Your baby's details: name (or nickname), date of birth and sex, which are needed to work out age and to plot the right WHO growth curves.
• Household membership: who is in your family group and who invited whom.
• Basic technical data: the timestamps and error information needed to keep sync working.

Health-related information about your baby is linked to your account, because that is what makes sharing between carers possible. We treat it as sensitive information.

What we do not do

• No advertising, and no advertising networks in the app.
• No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.
• No selling, renting or trading your information. Ever.
• No use of your baby's data to train anyone's models.
• No sharing with other users except the carers you explicitly invite.

Your baby's health information

The records you keep about your baby (feeds, nappies, growth measurements, notes, and their name, date of birth and sex) are health information, and health information is sensitive information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We handle it under that Act and the Australian Privacy Principles, and we hold it to a higher standard than the rest of the data in the app.

It comes from you, not from your child. Every record in Maxie is entered by a parent or carer in the household. We do not collect anything from the child, we do not infer or derive anything about them beyond plotting the numbers you enter against published WHO growth standards, and we do not buy, import or enrich data from anyone else.

It is never sold, rented or shared. Not with advertisers, not with data brokers, not with any third party, and not for training anyone's models. The only people who see it are the carers you invite into your household. The website analytics described under This website never see it either.

It is stored in Australia, in Supabase's Sydney region, encrypted in transit and at rest. See Where your data is stored below for the detail, including the limited overseas technical support access that applies to our hosting provider.

You can delete it at any time, all of it, including your account: Family → Delete account in the app, or email us. Full detail: how to delete your account.

We keep it only while you keep the account. Deleted data is purged, not archived. It is removed from the live database immediately and rolls off the encrypted backups within 30 days. We do not retain a shadow copy, an anonymised copy or an aggregate copy of your baby's records after deletion.

This website

The marketing pages at getmaxie.app carry no advertising pixels and no tracking cookies. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it records the page viewed, the referring site, and the browser and country in aggregate, and it does not build a profile of you or follow you across other sites. It is not in the Maxie app and never sees a feed, a nappy, a growth measurement or your baby's name. If a link you followed had a ?src= tag on it (for example from a post), your browser keeps that tag in its local storage (not a cookie, and never sent anywhere else) and we save it with your beta sign-up, so we know which posts help.

If you give us your email on the beta form, it goes into a waitlist table in the same Sydney database, together with the phones you told us about and the page and link tag you signed up from. We use it to send you the download link, and you can ask us to delete it at any time at hello@getmaxie.app.

Where your data is stored

Records sync to a hosted database run on Supabase, in its Sydney (Australia) region. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by the hosting provider. A copy also lives on your own phone so the app keeps working offline. That copy is inside the app's private storage, and it is removed when you delete the app.

Supabase is our hosting provider and processes data on our behalf. Some of its support and operations staff are outside Australia, so limited overseas access for technical support is possible. Apart from that, your records stay in Australia.

Who can see your records

Only the people in your family group: you, and any carer who has joined using an invite code you generated. Everyone in a household sees the same records for that baby. Anyone can be removed by the person who created the household, after which they can no longer see new or existing records for that baby.

We restrict our own access to what is needed to run and support the service, for example investigating a bug you report. We do not browse your records.

When we would disclose something

Only where the law requires it (a valid court order or legal obligation), or where it is necessary to prevent a serious threat to someone's life, health or safety.

Keeping and deleting data

• You can delete your account and its data from inside the app: Family → Delete account.
• You can also ask us to delete it by emailing hello@getmaxie.app from your account's email address. We action requests within 30 days, usually much sooner.
• Deletion removes your account and your records from the live database immediately. Encrypted backups roll off within 30 days.
• If other carers remain in the household, the baby's shared records stay with them. Deleting your account removes you, not their copy of the household. If you are the last member, everything goes.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@getmaxie.app. If you are not happy with how we have handled a privacy issue, tell us first. If we can't sort it out, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Data breaches

If a breach happens that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the OAIC as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything that affects you materially, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and update the date at the top of this page.

Maxie is a record-keeping tool. It is not a medical device and it does not provide medical advice. Growth percentiles are drawn from published WHO growth standards for reference only. Talk to your child health nurse or GP about your baby's growth.
